Beefy Goodness

Today, I had to head to Tesco to stock up on  my oats because the dangerously low level of stock is creeping me out and a morning without oatmeal will be a sour and cranky one for me. So, after doin some bank issues, headed there to get my oats and since I didn't want to just get ONE item, might as well get two packs and another kilo worth of couscous in my stash. Love the stuff...Hmm

I binged on about 1/2 cup of greek yogurt before I left for my journey and gosh I was stuffed. No joke, greek yogurts are awesomely creamier and richer than regular yogurts, but I should've known my limits. Anyway for lunch just had simple vege soup to down that creaminess. Also, boiled some beef white radish soup for dinner in advance.

And for dinner, I made couscous! Hahah! With a very typical Malaysian twist of course, TomYam flavoured! Yummyyyyy.. Had some turnips chopped in too, blends in with the yellow colour of the couscous.

And let't not forget my star dish, Beef and White Radish soup. Added some leeks and carrots with a dash of cinammon and pepper for that reminiscent Ngau Chap taste.
Ooohh..that hits the spot~ x)

Yummy Twists~

For lunch today, I whipped up my usual sandwiches with the loaf of Hovis 50/50 bread I got for 0.50p. Now, that's a bargain. Screw the expiry date, thanks to the cold weather here, the bread doesn't go mouldy as it should, like back home in Malaysia. Sad unfortunate citizens..
But this time, instead of cheese I improvised and made it a lil bit more different. I used Garlic Sausage (no idea why they call it that bcz it looks like ham to me) with tomatoes and spread it with some sweet chilli sauce. Hmm~ Yumm!
Cut them in cute triangles too xD

And for dinner, I wanted to finish my last half of rice noodles, so i used them with kimchi and red pepper paste. Was supposed to have it with some kimchi soup, but the noodles absorbed it all by the time I reached the bottom and it got quite clumpy..AGAIN~! Note to south, remind mom to NEVER buy this brand EVER AGAINNNNNNN!!!!

And for my side, I made turkey mince rolled in seaweed again~ I added some turnip chunks in there as we;; to give some lift. I added too much cornstarch this time == so it didn't really taste as good as the previous attempt. I double rolled it again in cabbage leaves as well. hehe..I couldn't decide which to wrap my turkey mince in. Either cabbage leaves or seaweed? Hmm..went for both..Hah!

A Birthday and a Zebra Cake

Sunday was my friend's birthday, so I volunteered to bake a cake for the occasion. Racked my brains the night before about how to decorate the cake, either with icing sigar or whipped cream. I went for the latter since both are about the same price anyway. But now that I think about it again, I think I should have gone with the latter.
My cake almost ended up as a disaster because of the cream melting to soon. Who'd knew it wasn't thick enough to be used like double cream. Grr! Anyway, Thank the Lord for Milo powder and colourful chocolate rice. My cake was saved and it was alive and breathing again. I attempted it as a zebra cake, but the zebra pattern wasn't obvious enough :( Will need real cocoa powder I guess. Sighs, anyway it was an epic night filled with lots of laughter and joy in the company of good friends.

Here's my zebra spongecake: The top turned out, but I wish I could say the same for the inside of the cake though :(
But it was a good spongecake. Took me and my friend about 1.5 hours to whip the 3 eggs thick and creamy BY HAND. No stand-mixer :(

Here's after decorating and waiting for the birthday girl to finally blow the candles!

Everyone loved the spongecake. Simple and yet so truly satisfying. Brings us back to our childhood memory lane. Again, I'm breathing a sigh of relief because my spongecake manage to stay as a thick sponge even with the wet and melted cream. THANK GOODNESS! WHEEW~ Stressed me up a bit, but glad it ended up well after all and everyone complimented my cake. :)

Group photos! xD With all the lovely people~

Fiery Saturday

After gym, I had lunch with my friend since she was eager to try my homemade kimchi. And, it's my first time having to cook for a friend in my flat. So, I just thought why not? Sure..Plus, we're both similar counter-parts when it comes to being a nutrition freak. xD basically mirror images of each other. So here was the lunch I whipped up for us both.

And for dinner, I made a mild green curry the left-over potatoes I had sitting in my fridge for weeks. It was strong enough to send the green colour of emanating from my bowl of starchy goodness. But all in all a good main dish. As my side, I baked my usual tomato and leek egg bake again. Uhm~ it was delish...
